The flight insertion part is a screw.
The more you turn it to the right, the tighter it holds the flight.
The holes on the side of the shaft allow you to tighten the barrel/shaft connection and prevent it from loosening.

I use pro grip shafts for hard, but I use this shaft for soft because the flights pull out well.
